Roots of Rock N' Roll 1927-1938

This album is for those who want to explore the deep roots of what we now know as rock n' roll or simply rock music. This album is filled with some great tunes from all the various genres which would combine into rock including jazz, soul, swing, country, blues, and honky tonk. Personal favorite of mine is the Tampa Kid recording of "Baby Please Don't Go" this is one of the earliest recordings of this song which would later become a blues and rock staple. If you like American music and I mean real American music not the stuff that is on the radio nowadays then you have to check out this great album.

Chava Flores - Antologia

Chava Flores is arguably one of the best artists to have come out of Mexico. His most famous song "Sabado Distrito Federal" describes the hectic and at times comical routine of people living in Mexico City. I highly recommend this album to anyone with any interest in Mexican or Latin music

Canciones de Resistencia y la Guerra Civil Española

I know in the past I posted another album with songs from the Spanish Civil War but I recently stumbled across this album and really thought it was worth sharing. The songs featured on this album are completely different from the ones on the album I had previously posted. This album features some great songs which really make you feel as if you were in Madrid or Barcelona in the 1930's during this forgotten chapter in the fight against Fascism. I highly recommend this album to anyone out there and hope everyone enjoys it.

The Specials - More Specials

More Specials is the second album released by the 1980's 2 tone band The Specials. This album though often overlooked by many contains some great tracks from a cover of the classic Enjoy Yourself (It's Later Than You Think) to Rat Race which comments on the often dull and fruitless work environment of the typical person. Personal favorites on this album are Stereotype and International Jet Set. Stereotype has a very dark and eerie sound and was written encouraging youth to not fall prey to the pressures of drug use. International Jet Set a mostly instrumental song was supposedly written by the band after their less than successful first US tour. Overall this is a great album that I would really recommend to anyone who enjoys really anything from ska to jazz and I might even say rock and pop music.

Underworld 1992 - 2002

I'll have to admit I'm not the most knowledgeable person when it comes to electronic music however Underworld is a band that I like very much and highly recommend. My favorite song by them "Rez" always makes me picture myself being in a train speeding through the night to some unknown location. The album I am making available for download is the special edition "Underworld 1992 - 2002". As I said before I highly recommend giving these guys a listen whether you are a fan of electronic music or like me not that knowledgeable in this music genre.

Joe Strummer's London Calling BBC Radio Shows

From 1999 to 2002 Joe Strummer the frontman of The Clash hosted a radio show for the BBC World Service. The show followed a very simple format with Joe spinning the records he had gathered from being a teenager living in Africa and Latin America to the reggae and rock records that would later become a tremendous influence in the music of The Clash. London Calling really did have a bit of music to suit any persons taste. Personally this is where I first heard much of the music that I now regularly listen to including artists like Big Youth, Francoise Hardy, Sonny Okosun, R. Dean Taylor, and music styles like Congolese rumba. I've heard that all the shows that Joe did are available for download on iTunes however the download that I am making available here has four shows which were re-aired by the BBC in 2007 in honor of Joe Strummer's death. I really recommend this one to anyone out there as you can really discover some great music on these shows.

Daniel Alvarez - On The Path To Awakening
